Found Associates were appointed to design an extension to and refurbish an existing 18th Century stone french farm house.
The brief provided by the client was:
“We would like a bold, modern and minimalist addition to this old farm in order to create a centre and gathering place with views. It should completely change the house and contrast with its old parts but at the same time be part of the wild environment of the nearby forest. We want to be able to live in the house all year round when we retire, and to really appreciate living there. We want to welcome all our four kids and eventual grandchildren at the same time, and to see more of the views from the house, but with the temperature being comfortable in the summer and winter. We want the house to be built of high quality, local raw-ish materials where possible and to be sustainable.”
Found rationalized the layout of the existing house, and designed a two storey extension which harnessed the far reaching views and provided the central gathering space that the family required on the first floor.
