Alderney

Found were appointed to carefully restore and extended an existing Georgian House on the island of Alderney. The property had been unoccupied for several years and its condition was deteriorating with many of its original features requiring repair and refurbishment. Unsympathetic extensions had also been made to the property over the years and these were to be removed.
The approach Found have taken to the design is to ensure that both the internal and exterior character of the Georgian House is reinstated in a sensitive and sympathetic manner, while any new extensions are clean, contemporary and complementary to the host building and its surroundings.
The choice of materials is a key element of the design which has been informed by the study of the site, surrounding island and weather conditions. The Georgian stucco facade has been repaired and kept as original. The ground floor extension is clad in Portland Stone, Grove Whitbed, the texture of which has been chosen to provide an intermediate texture between the stucco and local stone at basement level which links to the surrounding gardens existing stone walls.
