Gallery
Whitechapel, London

  • The 300 square meter site is a 1970′s light industrial unit. From the street, the gallery is discreet, the entrance a narrow opening in the black steel shutters. The site has had some minor demolitions but is essentially left untouched, its dishevelled state contrasting with the new. On entering the main gallery the spectator is enveloped by three perfect white gallery walls. The large high space, lit by Crittal skylights and linear fluorescents, is simple and calm.
